Nuts in May

Fresh air this morning and a lighter feeling...and then Facebook.
I have some grand male friends, but by heck, a couple of them are obsessed with sex, to the extent that many conversations seem to turn around to the same subject. 'It's the bonking month,' apparently. Yes, there was a tradition of people shagging around this time, but actually the older festivals were about fire and cattle and some fairy legends...Gerald Gardner decides to dance around his garden naked and suddenly it's tradition. Jeez.
Not that some chums need May as an excuse. A couple of them are brilliant people, but inevitably mention sex as soon as they can get it in (oo-er missus) the conversation. It's just so boring. Some just want the vicarious enjoyment of talking about it in lieu of any more practical experience. Others appear to be in the grip of full-blown (I know, I'm sorry) midlife crises.
As if to highlight this, a question appeared on a pagan forum about a term equivalent to 'crone,' for men within the craft. 'Sage,' was suggested. Wow. Sages and Crones. But as the first has a society induced sense of worth and the latter has a society induced sense of unworthiness, on examination, the labels are every bit as stupid as they seem.
From what I can deduce, men don't want to be sages, any more than women want to be crones; no-one wants to play Polonius or Prufrock for real. But perhaps post-menopause makes it easier for a woman to gage who she is, how far she has come and where she wants to be. I say 'perhaps,' I can only judge by my own experience. It places the focus squarely back on herself, and that's got to be helpful. Guys don't have this marker, this moment, so maybe this explains the few who seem to be lost between young buck and old lech. On the other hand, I have plenty of male friends who can hold a conversation that's not connected to getting it on. It's just an odd month.
