Wet Lands

[smokingboot]

crushed sugar cubes
silverfish under tiles
drip filled pots
dirty house glistening

she unpinned the paper
that held it together
went to the river
and washed her hands

the water smelled of roots
elvers, water lice
she wrung out her clothes
left them to dry

caught on the flood
her clothes escaped
bird on the mudflats, she ran
flowing footprints behind her
