Spent the weekend in Wynbunbury with chums. Wynbunbury's a very pretty and very tiny Cheshire parish, an ancient Christian saxon settlement with a history of fig pie wakes. Apparently the local festival custom was to give others a fig pie as a gesture of good will. Conversely, if someone was getting on your wick, you could climb to the top of the church tower and hurl your fig pie at the offender as they passed. Fig pie wakes were eventually banned.
A pity really, cos a fig pie wake would do me a lot of good right now. I could handle a bit of pie crust in my hair, and my retaliation would be gentle-ish. Honest.
Oh look here comes my period and a full moon. Goody!
