Where the cool kids go!

Maybe not... but in the height of Summer, the little there is of Whitstable harbour is a pleasant promenade, with its seaside booths full of arts and jewellery, and the surprisingly turquoise sea, as well as its total lack of bloody arcades and pier 'entertainments'. Kids played in the mud left by the departing tide - I recall rockpools along the shore from many years back, full of crabs and wee darting things - and the most enterprising even attempted to sunbathe, spreading their towels across beach pebbles the size of tennis balls. I like the place and hope it doesn't change too much.

We had a fine meander; sunshine lighting up my poor cluttered head, Prosecco and excellent food to follow. Am I the only person who questions beer batter? I think we buy it because beer tastes good and we expect it to impart that taste to some added flour. Doesn't work. But the moules and the cod were utterly luscious. The day continued in fine fettle, with friends at the Hide near London Bridge, home of implausible cocktails, plus excellent sushi to follow. I want to become properly vegetarian, but fish is much harder to give up than meat. Shellfish is pretty much one of my main staples...

This was a good weekend.

Notice, when I think, a little man pops out of my head!
