Richard of Devizes
Aug. 15th, 2015 01:46 pmSo I put a quote up from Richard of Devizes on Facebook. One chum informs me that the language ain't medieval (one thing I do find a bit cringeworthy is when people use the word 'Sorry,' to mean 'You are very wrong, and here's why...') another chum quotes the translation and source references at him, my father adds a photo of the Cavalier pub sign (Once 'The Gay Cavalier,') and says the name was changed because the word 'Gay' was stolen by homosexuals, my brother instantly counters by claiming that the word 'Gay' had homosexual associations in the 17th century, and only meant 'jolly, light-hearted,etc' for a short period between the 19th and the 20th century.
Richard of Devizes appears to have been an opinionated sardonic bastard. He'd have loved it.
