Yes, it's particularly tough when generations grew up with the notion that it was all right to smoke... by the time everyone knew about the damage nicotine can do, many people were addicted to it. Apparently the best chance is still just not to smoke at all, not to get into it. I have been a passive smoker for a lot of my life due to Dad - I recall Mum having to wash the net curtains endlessly because they got as yellow as Dad's fingertips very quickly - but nicotine makes me woozy and ill. A fortunate distaste!
