Maelstrom preparations

smokingbootI am almost ready, i.e, wig is rolled up on itself, derringers are waiting for me on site and kit is in a neat pile beside the case.
People are saying Maelstrom is the best LARP system out there. I am astonished at the reviews it's got. Oh strange sad irony that a system packed with excellent chums, merchant ivory costumes, player-led plot, real money and a visible lack of bloatyhead disease comes at a time when I have no energy to appreciate it. My own only occasionally bloaty head is full of insomnia, work, writing, plans I should be making and Scotland (told you I wasn't getting over it).
I know what will happen. I will hate the journey and get less and less enthusiastic until I am in costume. For the first night I will wander round haplessly trying to find the craich and understanding nothing. Then I will stop trying to understand and just enjoy it.
I suppose I ought to read the system next. Groo.
