Wow! I am exactly the same way when it comes to noise and work (writing.)
I cannot listen to music when I write. Can. Not. Because I start trying to identify individual notes, and instruments, and wondering whether other people have the same emotional reaction to this sequence of notes that I do, and ...
But I do often listen short sequences of notes if they carry an emotional resonance that I need for what I'm writing.
I've met people who can only write in silence before. But I don't think I've ever known anyone who did that short note sequence thing.
