The last apples I left on the tree for bugs and beasts are proper fairy tale bursting red now (note to self: if I leave apples on the tree til the 2nd/3rd week in September, they're not mediocre cookers at all, but perfectly fine cooked or raw) they smell good.
A brisk wind blowing off the hill, moving the trees. I like it, feels fresh. Autumn is here and I'm ready.
