A little better. Mum and I spoke this morning, and she seemed at least open to the possibility that I am not being dragged off to a land of ice caves against my will. We talked about food, she says she knows she is not eating enough. Certainly the woman is so full of pollen, royal jelly, alfalfa seeds, vitamin pills and other random supplements it's a wonder she doesn't rattle when she walks. Then again, she has always been as thin as a runner bean, and extremely healthy to boot. Can't say as much for myself tbh.
The exhaustion is extreme. A friend of mine who was also on the protest that got hairy talked about his tears afterwards. Mine came a few days later, during the come-down from hypervigilance and adrenaline.
A friend asked me if I really thought we were living in a fascist state. 'Really?' He said, 'really?'
'Not yet,' I replied. 'We're at a point where all the conditions required for a fascist state are in place. There are some differences and some saving graces but not as many as there should be.' The saving graces amount to little more than the example of past history and nothing like as calamitous a financial situation as 1930s Germany. I like to think it's enough but...
Boris Johnson may not really be a real fascist any more than he is a real Brexiter, but he has created a precedent for any wannabe who wants to close down parliament, silence dissenting voices in his own party, and break the law, all for a supposedly greater cause. Having created such precedents, it's all about the right time for the wrong opportunist. I don't know when or even if that will be. But if this isn't the show, it's certainly a rehearsal.
