Goodbye Stabface

smokingbootSpent the weekend ending an epic role-playing campaign which has lasted 2 and a half (?) years, and because most people won't care, time for the cut.
It was epic, glorious, and not without its Gilliam moments (a classic example being the point at which our Heath-Ledger style paladin was KO'd by a giant falling out of the sky and landing on him, courtesy of our enthusiastic arcane archer) I have never really liked high fantasy but this really has been a tour de force, and a bit of a role-playing challenge for me. I have had two main characters and two smaller roles within the campaign. One was a half orc who died, became an avatar of the orkish War-God and with the help of her erstwhile companions, overthrew him and became a Goddess herself.
The other was a real head-ache, a hugely intelligent, unempathic, very organised and methodical mage, a female version of Niles Crane, alignment Lawful Anal. I am none of these things, so role-playing it was very hard. Now that the bad guys are sorted she can busy herself sorting the Empire's judicial system, feeding the land and getting money back into the treasury, speeding up the Empire's ability to produce a la Venetian shipyards, looking into proper gunpowder (as opposed to the demon spawned stuff we found ourselves facing in the game) extending the Imperial lands northwards by melting the ice-caps there (weather control is on the cards) getting her academy going, using the powers of 'Wish' for as long as her conscience and her god will let her, and then, when all is done, taking an extra-planar sabbatical. All in all, the centuries ahead of her will be fun.
The Stabface campaign is full of amazing memories and I take leave of it and her persona with great fondness and affection. Bye bye Stabface.
Perhaps it is due to having shared the weekend with good friends, or last night's champagne, excellent steak and candlelit smooching, but Monday morning doesn't seem so grim as usual.
