He's in trouble now, and it shows something of the national character that his downfall does not loom due to the negligent homicide of over 150,000 people, but by having parties during lockdown. I'm not sure what that says about us.
He's desperate for some diversion to take the heat off and a new war would serve that purpose well, especially if it is big but far away. Boris' Churchillian fantasies are well known, though his desire to be like his hero comes down to the basic desire for acclaim and adoration. He is no friend to work beyond his writing, and has neither talent nor interest in administration. But he could certainly play the part, put on the hat, make grave noises in attempts to unite the country behind him in yet another replay of The WarTM. The press would paint this as a playboy renouncing his folly and sturdily growing into a man in the service of his nation. But the truth is, he's got people killed in this country just because he couldn't be arsed. Anyone who thinks he will trouble himself over the deaths of troops in another land does not see him. Defeat beyond our shores will be as good as victory for propaganda purposes, flags waving to forlorn bugles for an audience of moist eyes and wobbling chins. Ironically the Tory Party has benefitted from generous oligarchs with connections to the Kremlin. They'd want loud roars and support for the US in the hope for a deal... And business as usual behind closed doors. I think.
