"The Secretary of State for Instagram"
Mar. 1st, 2022 09:00 amThank you Liam Byrne MP. Byrne by name...
The kremlin is saying that the nukes order was given in response to comments by Liz Truss. Liz Truss? Who the hell takes Liz Truss seriously? It's like threatening to commit arson on a row of houses, including one's own, because a kid kicked a football into one's garden.
Or to quote a friend:
Liz Truss starting nuclear brinkmanship. What a time to be alive.
In a dreadful way she is very funny. Everything is a photo op for her. From The Crown to Top Gun, she's constantly trying too hard, and yes, her instagram is flooded with photos of herself. She wasn't sent to Russia to achieve anything. BJ sent her there to give her lots of ways to prove her inadequacy, because he knows she is desperately trying to evoke the spirit of St Thatcher in her race for number 10... And perhaps there was a small element of trolling Lavrov too. The latter has a reputation for being a very sharp aggressive operator. But you can't befuddle someone who is already befuddled, someone who lives in a permanent state of Dunning-Kruger inspired complacency. She's not there to work, not to engage or remonstrate or reason. It must have been frustrating for Lavrov, but possibly not annoying enough to start World War III.
She's more dangerous due to her ridiculous declaration re Brits going to fight in Ukraine: "That is something people can make their own decisions about. The people of Ukraine are fighting for freedom and democracy, not just for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe...Absolutely, if people want to support that struggle I would support them in doing that."
The Foreign Enlistment Act of 1870 prohibits Brits from fighting in foreign wars against countries with whom the UK is at peace. This is old obscure stuff but surely the Foreign Secretary should be aware of it. Not that the Act stopped Brits from getting themselves involved in the Spanish Civil War and perhaps Vlad's lads jumped a bit at that; obviously a whole bunch of reinforcements for Ukraine would not please them, but I can't imagine Darren from Sheffield with his four pub mates and vast experience of Andy MacNab novels is any kind of threat to the Russian front line.
Hopefully only a fool would leap off on her encouragement without questioning why the Tory party is keeping the £1.82 million donated to it from kremlin-connected sources. That's known donations, god knows how much more has escaped declaration. They're stupid but they're not that stupid.
