I am indebted to Mallory's_Camera for this amazing article:

So interesting. Mallory's_Camera points out the possibilities; a third sex with a different kind of brain.

My first instinct is why not? Why shouldn't a new kind of human exist? But then no-one seems sure about the influence of permanent puberty blockers on mental development. Puberty changes the brain. How would society adjust to people who might not be held responsible for their actions? What would their legal status be? Having said that, if they are autonomous enough to make the decision to stay permanently on blockers, they are autonomous enough to live by society's rules and pay society's price. Autonomy is the key. It's also the key to preventing some grotesque abuses ; there are, after all, other sorts who might be interested in keeping gender dysmorphic children on puberty blockers.

Other less repugnant forms of exploitation might occur, situations in which the patient becomes the experiment. After all, what harm can it do if Phoenix is OK with it? No-one really knows what would happen. Ethically, is that a good enough reason not to give an adult more of the medication they have been taking since 12, medication that has enhanced their quality of life and mental health?

The possibilities are just endless. It would make the basis for a great science fiction novel.
