There are photos out there of my mother looking beautiful. She never liked them. She wouldn't like these either, but I do, and I'll put them here in case I lose them.



My brother asked me what I said to get Mum to look at me as though I'm a complete idiot. It's just the story of my life and her side-eye mastery. Nine times out of ten I'm completely unphased by it, the tenth time there's two of her.



There's a screenplay waiting here somewhere.

Screenplay? Maybe. But I'm also thinking novel. Modern fairytale: Woman who falls under a dire enchantment in mid-life; daughter who saves her.
