A dose of daily judgment

Observations before I start a day full of stuff.

1) Jane Eyre again, yes, I keep this book in my loo. While I am a loquacious person and I like loquacious people, I swear to god I would lamp Edward Rochester just to shut him up. He just won't stop talking. That endless stream of whatever the hell he's saying to justify conning an 18 year old into marrying a bigamist, his attempt to make her his mistress when it all goes wrong, his strangely unaware rattling off the list of his other mistresses whom he despised simply for giving him what he wanted... No wonder Jane leaves her brains and all her worldly goods at Whitecross. When I was a girl Rochester's passionate speeches caught me, decades later I find myself feeling almost relieved at Jane's destitution as she wanders the moors, cos it's bad, Lord knows it's bad, but at least it's quiet. Once, I could not feel charitable towards Richard Mason for breaking up the whole thing at the church, now I just want to cock an eyebrow at Jane and tick off the list; Bertha Mason, Céline Varens, Giacinta, Clara... and he leads Blanche Ingram up the garden path too. This bloke's bad news until he's so bust up no-one would want him. He's brave for sure, trying to save his crazy wife before she throws herself off the roof. Having said that, she probably thought certain death was better than listening to his monologues one more time.

2) Gwyneth Paltrow, oh dear. Beautiful, talented, successful, everything to be wished for. Then I caught a glimpse of some interview with her talking about her wellness routine of coffee, veg, and bone broth. She looked like someone caught by the curse in Pirates of the Carribean, skin stretched tight over her exquisite bones. Doesn't matter how gorgeous you are, if you can't eat a peck when you're this rich, something's wrong. Given the choice between steaming my undercarriage plus infrared saunas, I'd sooner have a breakfast involving food.

Breakfast is something I had better attend to now, cos I am running out of ways to avoid getting ready. It's almost a tragedy I have to do things, I've got such a talent for indolence.

Being judgy again(!) I wrote Gwyneth off as being about the money, a savvy if not particularly scrupulous entrepeneur. As there's loads of those around I can't consider her as any worse or better for that, but there's a strange perverse joke in there, and I wish I couldn't see it. What is the point of being worth over $200 million dollars if one dare not eat? And it spreads the idea that this is something to aspire to. Brrr!
