Happy Birthday To Me!

I love my birthday!
61 years, and it's grand, though obviously there have been a few tough moments. But the real hard times were long ago, most days are sweet. Holiday present? Escape to the River Lune - or technically a tributary of it, the river Conder - with R,D and L. It's hard to describe the beauty of the area possibly because I spent most of my time in a hot tub holding various cocktails, but also because it has a slightly different vibe. Yes the whole place has that hedgerow and bicycles Five Go Into The Country vibe, with butterflies, the biggest robins I've ever seen, plus flower-decked and curiously long old pub;
But also the Conder is tidal and when the tide is out, the sight of boats stranded in the mud is forlorn and fascinating; one in particular seems to have been totally abandoned. 'Maybe the owner died,' said the guy showing us round the airb&b, 'there's easily £30,000 worth of boat just left there...'
Nonetheless there's no melancholy about the atmosphere, though easy to see it'll be something else in Winter. I noticed what seemed like two huge shrub roses, (being no expert I can only describe them as resembling Harlow Carrs) growing on the banks as if they escaped from a RHS garden and just kept going til they found the water. They look happy. I intended to photograph the onshore boats from behind them but the view never really worked. Not one photo satisfied me or managed to convey the feeling of the place. Conder Green will have to stay mostly in my head. Meanwhile, great friends, great times, can't ask for more.
Well maybe you can. I also got this chonky fellow, looking very pleased with himself. I know how he feels. 😊
