Happy Anniversary to Us

We've been together since June 1999, married since 2016. It's been cool!
Thoughts of seeing Oppenheimer tonight but it didn't seem quite appropriate really...maybe tomorrow.
The weather is so dreadful, I don't think we will be going out this evening. We're seeing friends during the day though, and a little Moet awaits.
All those years I never wanted matrimony, not as a child, not ever, saw my parents marriage and knew to stay right away from anything so ruinous and painful. I recall rolling my eyes at Monica Geller talking about how little girls plan and dream of their wedding day, as though it's some pinnacle of existence! And it's pushed so hard at women! When we were considering a Halloween wedding at the Horn of Plenty in Devon, the planner gushed at me saying this would be the most wonderful day of our lives; R chuckled as I replied, 'I hope not!' Because no; I wanted a book opening, not the top of a mountain from where the only way is down.
My sense was always that nothing puts more pressure on a connection than leaning on it and I still think there's sense to that. But sometimes the promise strengthens and sweetens. Can't promise tomorrow, but as a sequence of todays, I really can't complain.
And here I am with husband and hat and happiness, shocked to discover myself as a wife!

Date: 2023-07-31 08:40 am (UTC)I never believed. My mother, whose life with my father I wouldn't wish on a bad dog, trained me thoroughly against it, and I grew up with no clue that there might be so much good in marriage.
I'm enjoying my education!

I got married to Husband #1 around Halloween. I wore a traditional wedding gown at the actual wedding. But at our reception—which was a costume ball (of course!) I wore the tackiest wedding gown I could find at the thrift shop, shoved a pillow up it (pregnant bride! shotgun wedding!), put my hair in curlers, stuck my feet in fuzzy pink slippers, and danced the night away!!! 😀
