To get me out of my funk yesterday I tried to catch up on world events.

This was a very bad idea.

I understand why people send 'thoughts and prayers.' Banal as it sounds, there are times when situations are so appalling an ordinary person feels helpless. The Brute Politic Eye can see the natural trajectory of this, as well as its origin. My mother has sent me a video I won't watch about the final minutes of whatever. 'Look at this,' she says, 'it is terrifying!'

Oh my mum. Don't you live with enough fear?

Exploring, writing and reading, performing, creating art, learning, looking after each other and life on earth, partying, playing. That's our real job and we enjoy it, so how the hell we end up swirling around this plug hole time and time again beats me. I refuse. I will not join the countdown, won't play cruelty's game. We should be dancing.

If I were you, I'd avoid world events right now.

They are indescribably depressing.

Catching up on current events is definitely not going to pull you out of a funk these days. Maybe not ever!

The thing about being able to know about everything everywhere in the world is that we feel connection and then responsibility, the way we would/do with news in our own town. And in our own town, we can sometimes (often) do something to help with the problem... but not with world news, not generally.

I agree with you about our real job.
