Stupid Adventures

My brother contacted me yesterday and asked me if I was up for doing something stupid. Unthinkingly I said yes. He told me to name a railway station. I said Basle. He insisted it be somewhere on the UK mainland. I said Milffordd as it is the closest station to Port Meirion.
'Right,' he said, 'meet you there in 24 hours.'
I had to pull him up straight away. First of all, it's not a direct link, secondly it's nearly £200 before hotels booked, thirdly, it's a 16 hour round trip, lastly, I have this appointment very soon. He's disappointed. I tried to persuade him to come next week, when I am over this bit, but he's not hearing me. He's turning up Wednesday he says. 'You prefered to be locked in,' was his reproach. F*** me, when this guy doesn't get it, it really is full fathoms five over his head. How to express to him why I am being boring stupid not adventurous stupid? Never mind; after his disastrous Xmas and New Year, I really was very worried for his mental health. My job, if he turns up, is to find him something outrageously stupid to do. The real answer is to take him to Ravenscraig in the ice and snow, show him Alex and Shirley and the place where the Silver Man was seen, and then try to navigate back across country to our place. It's only about 4 miles but it might curb him of wanting stupid adventures for a bit. Of course, it will probably do for me as well, but that's just me entering into the spirit of being a complete idiot.
He does not get that what I want and need is rest, sleep, and heat. If things turn very nasty, I may try to work out some way of spending a lot of time in a hot country, because sunshine and warmth always help me. And obviously if I start to feel better, maybe a little walk somewhere south with a few beasties to gaze at ;-) (https://www.audleytravel.com/tanzania) but in all honesty, the most likely thing is that I sleep next to the fire for a bit and wake properly when Spring takes away the bite of the cold. I keep dreaming of the faces of friends. It's all OK.
