Good.

Not perfect, but good.

The Tories are out, the disaster might even have slowed their descent into outright madness. Might.

The SNP got deservedly spanked. It seems so strange that they and the Tory party are at opposite ends of the political spectrum, and yet shared almost identical forms of political hubris. They have ignored the basic difference between campaign and government, and forgotten that need trumps wish every single time; schools, surgeries, roads, rent, basic infrastructure must work. Jedi mind tricks are no substitute.

The local Labour candidate appeared on our doorstep yesterday. She looked a bit sheepish, as though she was new to the situation.

'Have you been to the polling station yet?' she asked.

'I have,' I replied, 'and in that freezing sleet we had this morning too!'

She nodded. 'Aye, that was bad. And can I ask you...if you don't mind... who did you vote for?'

I gave her a big smile. 'Why, you,' I said, 'so don't let us down. Make this work!'

'Oh!' she gasped, 'thank you so much,' she was grinning and blushing together. 'And I will,' she added, 'you'll have visible representation from me!' She nodded and beamed as we closed our conversation. I looked at the results this morning. Bet she's beaming even more today.

Meanwhile, here's a moment of the bad old days: https://www.facebook.com/reel/2551327415068513
