Goodness.

Pet death is unbelievably painful.

But if your 16/17 year old has not left their bed in 5 days and refuses to eat anything but cake brought to them, it is probably time to at least move the cake downstairs, give them a reason to get up.

Pff. I am not a parent, what do I know? Best to shut up.

If your child has not left the bed in five days and refuses to eat unless the food is highly palatable and easy to eat, I'd be worried that it was time to make an appointment with a shrink.

Her parents would likely lose their minds at the idea of a shrink, but I would not be surprised if counselling was of benefit to this child. I might catch up with them next week and try to make the suggestion if there is no improvement.

And I'd certainly close down the cake supply.

Oh, I'd bet money that the kid is getting up occasionally. Just not so as the 'rents notice. (They're not wetting the bed, are they?)

I don't think so. And I agree re the child getting up now and then. While I think counselling might very well be of benefit, I also wonder if bedside cake tastes better than kitchen table cake.
