The night still seems deep, no sense of the grey before dawn yet.
Around three weeks from now sees the longest night arrive, which some call Midwinter, though for me it heralds the start of the cold. Yesterday evening I was astonished to see so many neighbours' Christmas lights suddenly blaze into life. We haven't given any of that a moment's thought. We don't even have an advent calendar. We are in no way ready.
I woke worried about Bro.
Usually I am able to remove my fretting from things I cannot affect. As I bend my mind to write the feeling dispels a little. I will text him at 8.30, make sure he is actually awake and going to work.
This morning everything seems very dark and cold. Even the cats are not whinging about breakfast yet. It occurs to me that I have about 5 sharp hours so I should make the most of them, or at least consider making some coffee.
A friend sends links to online advent calendars. I'm going for the Ashmolean one this year https://www.ashmolean.org/advent?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
It lacks the delight of actually picking open the little cardboard doors to reveal whatever, but it's still cool.
