Yesterday evening did not go as planned. We had bought tickets to Empyre (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUtnLl0T818) at Bannermans in Edinburgh, so away we went, had some time to spare so decided to eat at Angels With Bagpipes.

Hmm. So this is pleasant enough food, haggis bonbons with whisky sauce, venison carpaccio, steak tartare... but the portions are really tiny and not so very delicious as to warrant a bill north of £100. We enjoyed it but won't bother going again.

Then on we went to Bannermans where R made the heartstopping discovery that he didn't have the front door keys. He went back and checked at Angels with Bagpipes, nope. Trouble with that kind of discovery is that you can't stop thinking about it, so we dashed home only to find he'd left the keys in the car. Q Relief, a little wine, and the watching of 1883.

I'm enjoying it. I mean, this is the most disastrous wagon train ever, but still. Has Sam Elliott been playing the same part for a hundred years? I've seen photos of him when younger, most strange. If there are two men who should have been born grey and grizzled, it's Kristofferson and Elliott.

Anyway everyone in 1883 is tiresome but still it works. If it carries on interesting me I might watch 1923 and perhaps Yellowstone, though Harrison Ford and Kevin Costner have joined my league of Good Actors I've Seen Too Much. This esteemed club includes the likes of David Tennant, Judie Dench, and Pedro Pascal. Michael Sheen's just teetering on the edge.

But Sam Elliott I could watch for weeks.

Sam Elliott looks & sounds like my real-life father.

1883 was really the only part of the whole I really ended up enjoying. I will be very curious to hear your thoughts once it's done and dusted!
