[profile] larians parents have very kindly given us one of those voucher things that knocks off the price of a hol in the med. We can't afford much, maybe a couple of days on a Greek island or something; a relaxing time when, armed with lots to eat and the sea nearby, my trusty lap top could start churning out my next big thing. No money but lots of yoghurt and honey and olive trees, and the sound of waves against the shore.... perfect.

So why is my mind full of the cinque terre? Why, when the sea is just as turquoise around Paxos, do my thoughts fly to the vineyards and coasts beyond Genoa? Why, for god's sake, when my next port of call in that part of the world should surely be Florence, when Greek fishing villages are just as charming as Italian fishing villages and a lot cheaper, why do I suddenly find myself magnetised towards Liguria?

Because Italy just does that to you, that's why. We can't afford this, we really can't. Can't, can't can't.

Mustn't.

Just might...

I did, much to my surprise. Americans on the left hand edge are rather different to those on the right hand edge.
Plus Portland is a funky place, Every major construction (buildings, bridges, whatever) must allocate 1% of the construction cost to arts projects on the thing being built.
There are random sculptures, paintings and weird things across the entire city.
Plus, More strip clubs per capita than any other american city.
