The mornings have gone dark. I notice no-one saw fit to consult me about this. Quincey looks very pretty, all gold and russet. His changes had me worried that he had caught fireblight, but no, apparently they are connected to a local phenomenon know as 'Autumn.' Hmm. No pears this year, as he has no arborial chum to pollinate with, but we shall see what we can do for 2006. A robin has taken up residence in the back hedge, giving the cats something to kill other than frogs.

I am procrastinating here because I have lots and lots of work to do. My malingering has been successful up to now, but as the sun has finally committed itself to the day, I can't delay much longer.

You see, when Summer was here, I could just run out there, chase the gulls and play in the garden. And when Winter comes, I can curl up next to the fire and listen to the wind. The trouble with Spring and Autumn is that they're so busy, it makes one feel guilty for not being industrious.

But not that guilty. Time for more coffee methinks *yawns*

Give it another couple of weeks and the mnornings won't seem quite as dark. The evenings however, will start an hour earlier and we'll all make comments along the lines of "Ooh, the nights are drawing in" and never properly acknowledge that this is because we artificially exaggerate the seasonal shift every year...

This my absolute favourite time of year. The crsipness in the air, the smells and most of all the colours. It might look like everything is withering and dying, but really everything is either offering up its year's work for harvest or retrenching and storing as much as it can ready for the long winter.

It is certainly a very beautiful time of year and I agree with you; doesn't feel like it's dying. No, underneath all that bramblesome and goldenbrown there's downright work, and harvest. I quite like it when I'm not grumpy and protesting at the effort needed to bring in my own harvest:-)
