Tonight is lovely and mellow, with delicious messages from old friends to make me smile. And so, with only one major piece of outstanding admin crapola, I can become a human being again. I'm going to indulge myself with a meme.
Abortion?: Pro-choice every time. Motherhood as punishment ('she made her bed, she should lie on it') is much more punitive to child than parent, and it makes bitter and miserable families.
Death Penalty?: My head says no, my heart says it's a good thing I don't own a gun.
Prostitution?: Make it safe, recognise it, respect it, give it clear and constructive social and legal status, protect sex workers, and we have not only a healthier, happier society, but a total bonanza in tax potential!
Alcohol?: Yup. To each his own. Moderation is useful.
Marijuana?: Ditto.
Other drugs?: Ditto, with some caveats.
Gay marriage?: Yup. Why not?
Illegal immigrants?: There but for fortune go I. It is important to help asylum seekers. I want to be able to go anywhere, live anywhere, work anywhere - and if I do that, I am happy to commit my taxes to support and sustain the state that gives me such an opportunity.
Smoking?: Ugh! But, as the child of a very heavy smoker, I can live with it and get used to it. It's nice not to have to do that, though.
Drunk driving?: Stupid.
Cloning?: Why not? My only misgiving is the idea of creating a human in order to fulfil a function, rather than to develop their own individuality and happiness.
Racism?: Twattery
Premarital sex?: It's marital sex I object to!
Religion?: Very often mis-used as a tool of social control, but in and of itself, the spirituality of the individual can make life radiant and true.
The war in Iraq?: Dislike the motives, approve the outcome.
Bush?: I have no faith in this man.
Downloading music?: *shrug* Don't know enough to have a valid opinion on this.
The legal drinking age?: Fine as it is.
Porn: Leaves me cold, but if consenting adults are up for it, fair enough.
Suicide?: Personal choice, personal pain, personal right. Sometimes life is not precious. Sometimes life is shit and there is no rescue. Compassion is mighty in the silence, judgement irrelevent. No-one owes anyone else their life. Endgame is your call.
