Rocky and Billie

One of the most depressing things I read recently was the story of a little owl tortured by youths up in Yorkshire somewhere.

I won't describe what the poor wee thing went through; suffice it to say that there were doubts, at first, as to whether it would live, then whether it would fly again; and a reward of £150 was offered for information as to the culprits. Public donations, fueled by indignation and kindness, have taken the reward up to a grand. No-one has come forward yet, but the good news is that the owl (christened 'Rocky') is flying and in good health, plus he now has a little girlfriend, Billie. The two are going to be freed together in an ancient woodland of 500 acres.

The end of this story dried a few tears in the smokingboot household. Guess it's owl's well that ends well...
