Old Town and K'lootlootl
Mar. 1st, 2015 10:13 pmWell, it's not Sin City.
We weren't meant to be there; the idea was to meet up in London and going pubbingwithsounds if we felt like it. But we were all exhausted and all in Stevenage, so we decided to meet up in Old Town.
New town Stevenage is erzatz; a bit spread out,a bit concrete warren, a bit ugly and faceless. Old Town isn't beautiful but it's all right; good vibe, good pub, good band, good friends, good night. Could do it all again. Admittedly spent most of today getting over it...
Another thing I learned at the weekend was Lovecraft's own pronunciation of Cthulhu as the denizens of his stories described it to him. It's got umlauts in it. I didn't even know what an umlaut was. Sounds like some kind of dried fruit to me. Apparently, Cthulhu is not Kut-hoolhoo but Kuh-lootlootl, a hopelessly cute name for squamous blasphemous antidiluvian unnameable horrors and their ilk. To my ear it sounds slightly pokemon.
No wonder he went a bit strange. I think he'd have liked Stevenage though.
