Well, it's not Sin City.

We weren't meant to be there; the idea was to meet up in London and going pubbingwithsounds if we felt like it. But we were all exhausted and all in Stevenage, so we decided to meet up in Old Town.

New town Stevenage is erzatz; a bit spread out,a bit concrete warren, a bit ugly and faceless. Old Town isn't beautiful but it's all right; good vibe, good pub, good band, good friends, good night. Could do it all again. Admittedly spent most of today getting over it...

Another thing I learned at the weekend was Lovecraft's own pronunciation of Cthulhu as the denizens of his stories described it to him. It's got umlauts in it. I didn't even know what an umlaut was. Sounds like some kind of dried fruit to me. Apparently, Cthulhu is not Kut-hoolhoo but Kuh-lootlootl, a hopelessly cute name for squamous blasphemous antidiluvian unnameable horrors and their ilk. To my ear it sounds slightly pokemon.

No wonder he went a bit strange. I think he'd have liked Stevenage though.

Blimey!
Why has my cheesehead decided you live in Welwyn Garden City?
Next time we're hitting Old Town, you are very welcome to join us!

I DO live in WGC but that's only 7 miles from Stevenage ;) If I can make it next time you're nearby, would love to catch up :)

St Evenage (new town) centre is ... well, I used to say I felt like and elf in a half-orc city when I was there.
Old town is surprisingly good for parking and shops.
And TJ's cafe. If you order the house breakfast you can feel your arteries hardening as they put in on the plate.
And 6 miles away.

The whole area is a bit strange, kind of spread out in all directions, sometimes green sometimes grim. We considered moving to Stevenage when buying - certainly one house was very tempting - but London London London and all that...hard to break the habit of a lifetime. And without regular buses, the house might have become a bit of a prison for me as I don't drive. Also, I had seen New Town and I hadn't seen Old Town.

If we go out again, I'll try to message you here or on FB, see if you want to join us. Me, Russ, Anita, Mitchy if she wants to come and some chums sans LJ...good times!
