The trees are rustling, and the air is fresh. I spent much of yesterday picking and parboiling apples for puddings throughout the next year, which makes me feel like some marvellous old style housewife, except of course I was too hungover to do anything else.
The tree is still full of apples; we don't have enough room for them despite having two freezers. So what now? Cider? Jam? Apple crisps? Wine? They turn up a bit too early for baked apples, which, while delicious, are definitely not a pudding for hot days.
My work has suffered somewhat, but then the summer's never a good time for it. Going to visit friends at the weekend, friends coming to visit us early next week. Might as well enjoy it while we can.
