Exhaustion

Another milestone.

Work must be left now so that I can come back to it with fresh eyes.

A terrible night, no sleep due to one cat being an utter pest and leaping on to the bed every half hour. She groomed me, purred at me, pawed at me, all in the name of deepest love aka the desire for a meal she refused the night before.

Tomorrow is a long day. I am supposed to be at a 50:50 Ask Her To Stand Day, helping out a lobby group for 50% representation of women in parliament. This whole thing has proved to be difficult. To be a delegate, one needs to be invited by one's local MP, so I contacted mine a month ago, only to hear he had no idea what was going on, and could I send details to his office. I did, heard nothing back, and chased it up last week only to learn that he had invited someone else in the interim! How rude!

There goes my vote for him. He wouldn't have dared such bad manners if his wasn't a safe Labour seat. Still, I have volunteered to help, and there are a couple of workshops I'm interested in attending; besides bimbling around the House of Commons is a lot of fun. It's an interesting time to be there too, with plots abounding and desperate schemes to unseat the PM. And of course there's a chance I'll bump into my MP... in which case I'm going to thoroughly enjoy myself.

Edited to add: Ah so now I receive a message from one of my MP's case workers:

Unfortunately, there has been some confusion at our end. Although I was not aware of the event personally, details were disseminated directly to Members of Parliament and [MP] had already spoken with a constituent he wished to invite. This is someone [MP] has worked with in the community in the past. I was not aware of this until very recently.

I do appreciate that we could have been clearer about things earlier on and I am sorry that you are not able to attend the event on this occasion.

My reply has been less than gracious:

The confusion does seem to have been comprehensive. I would find your reasoning above more credible if I had not had to chase you up to get any answer at all. So not only were you unaware that [MP] already knew and had invited someone (an astonishing indication of the quality of communication and record keeping between you all) but you couldn't even get back to me and tell me about it. I had to come to you. Even assuming that what you say is true - an assumption which requires a lot of good will from me - the rudeness and inefficiency is off the scale.

I am a lifelong Labour voter, and an erstwhile Labour party member. I will not be voting for [MP]at the next GE.
