The Near Fairy Tale
Jul. 9th, 2020 05:48 pmYesterday started with unfurling roses so delectable I had to take a pic.

Then I made my way to this litter picking community thing, and was partnered with a guy who knows a lot about the surrounding hills in terms of history, supernatural happenings, best places for views etc. A happy circumstance! It's all the kind of stuff I love! I began a little research last September, but real work and then the sheer weariness of the time took over. He pointed me at his group's FB page and if the weather's good, R and I will follow his advice and go up into the hills for a jaunt on my birthday.
The way home was a little magical as well. There's this small nature reserve, no-one really knows what it's called, but the quickest way to the middle of town from here is right through it. There on the path, crouched a little boy talking to the tarmac. His mum watched indulgently.
'It's baby frogs,' he explained, 'there's loads of them, and they're all trying to cross!' Sure enough he was shepherding three into the long grass, and after that, I saw them everywhere.

So the rose is here, the frog is here, the quest is close by though it's a bit vague, the princess/heroine is here even if she's looking a bit *ahem* weathered these days, the sage/witch has turned up with great advice, and the handsome prince/hero is ready. We lack a monster, but as the land is ruled by a wicked fool of a king and his despicable adviser, maybe we don't need one.
