Crepuscular
Aug. 11th, 2020 06:09 amThe sound of rain woke me up this morning. I'm here before the light is.
Good friend returned after a couple of weeks, bringing his son with him. There was talk, laughter, food, booze, culture, all the usual; there were also owls. Went to an owl sanctuary, met Hudson the Mighty Charisma Owl. Came home to see a wild one overhead at around one in the morning; and while I appreciate that sanctuaries are needed, that species are endangered, it's obvious that life is better without cages.
It reminded me of *adopts strained Meryl Streep accent* Aaahfriicaa. We were camping in the Savuti one night when the guide woke us all up to come and see a tree, with the occasional rhythm of a strange deep sound ahead of us. Binoculars revealed the inhabitants close up, huge eagle owls calling to each other, that drum their song like the beat of a huge heart.
If I could only take one more journey in all my life, it would be back to Africa.
Anyhoo, back to friend's stay. It was excellent, only issue being exhaustion. I spent most of Sunday and Monday wandering around half asleep, now I am pointlessly awake at a stupid time. And still tired.
