I'll make the journey so sublime,
I know you're not a travelling girl...

- Some nonsense by Scissor Sisters

Only I am a travelling girl of course, so I don't know why I feel this wobbly.

I'm almost all packed. Strange how different it feels this time, case instead of carry-all, contract all ready to rock and roll. Two weeks away, I'll be seeing friends and having such a good time, reunited with [profile] larians for his mum's and sister's birthdays, seeing more friends I hope, getting used to the work and ending up at the Beltane Bash. Like old times maybe. Can't be, can it? No such thing as going back really. I wonder if the London I recall has missed me? We shall see.

It should be like a fab holiday but somewhere in the gritty recesses of my packing head it feels serious and important. Perhaps it is the thought of 14 days away from the kitties, perhaps I am just surprised at the change.

See you in a fortnight, lj world. Try to stay out of trouble - remember what those cops told you;-)

Addendum: Why have I packed 4 pairs of shoes for two weeks?

You don't want to KNOW how many pairs of shoes I've crammed in my holiday suitcase. Wishing you luck, confidence, charisma, joie de vivre, exhuberance, security, happiness and lots of other nice things. J works away a lot and it makes for many romantic goodbyes and happy reunions so don't worry. I'm afraid to say kitties will notice you're gone only if dinner is a little later than usual. And as for "going back"; I thought I would never "go back" to Brum, place of so many happy times and heartbreaks. But time passes and it doesn't seem so scary after all. Its new but familiar - hoping you find a similar happy place. And now I'll shut up!!

*LOL* Thank you!

Oh my god, don't you dare shut up, you're the equivalent of emotional vitamin C! I read your comment and now I can't stop grinning - and rethinking my packing of course. Maybe I should take my bikini...

Better to pack it an not need it than end up naked at the beach.

My dear, can you contact me via Carrie? the days are flying away very fast now, and at this rate, we may have to save sushi for June!

Messages sent by all the means I have available.

If the worst comes to it I'll come sit on her doorstep with a tray of yummy food in one hand and a rose in the other.

(love and hugs)

We've missed you!

Ravenrigan, I have no way of contacting you! Do you have contact with bytepilot or mamapusscat? if so, can you leave them some way I can get in touch with you over the next week?

Look forward to seeing you if possible this week, if not, asap!

London keeps little fragments of everyone thats ever been there or lived there tucked away within itself like footprints, and while it may change over time in suprising ways those bits are all still there.
At least the weather has been decent here for a change though :)

Oh yes, and they all talk...

Years ago I worked on a freeform, a kind of roleplay thing for about 80 people based on the dead of London, and from Spitalfields to Highgate, the ghosts shouted or sang loud through the stories I found, real events, real people... research led to bizarre synchronicities. I come back and it's all still there, only much much more. Yes, old Dame London remembers me. See how she has ended the drought just for the occasion;-)

There certainly are odd synchronicities in London-on a personal level there is the severed head connection...my great great gandfather (or something like that) worked for the west india company as a runner-and he used to hang out in the warehouses with the dockers. They had a barrell of rum on tap (secretly of course), and it was the best they had ever tasted. Knowing that this sometimes meant something interesting had contaminated the barrell, they opened it up when it was dry...and discovered a human head in it. The connection? They were not far from the Tower, which is built on a hill legend says was protected by the severed head of Bran the Blessed. Its also the area where Jack the Ripper 'worked', but it seems he never got round to heads properly.
