So they offered me another shift and I ran down to London early; and the work went very well, except for my return to the grand klutzdom of early weeks in throwing a cup of water all over myself and the front desk, nearly drowning two teccies and my microphone. I have at least learned that the secret of dealing with such things is not to cover it up but to tell the audience about your disaster cos they love it when you goof. One texted the show especially to tell me that my 'expression was priceless'. Once again the prize for Most Elegant Presenter eludes me.

The trouble with this work is that it eats your head. I have not been able to catch up with chums at all, and in fact only made it to one party - a work related one, in a grotty little pub so frequently and fervently used by our lot, the company was seriously considering its purchase as the cheaper option. The party moved on to a Turkish restaurant with music and dancing, and I moved on to work the evening shift. So much for my wild lifestyle.

I came back to find my love and my kitties waiting, and unexpected developments in the garden.

This summer I bought three rose bushes, two floribunda and one hybrid tea, and I planted them all together, a total mistake as any gardener will tell you, cos the hybrid tea is much taller than the others and it looks funny. Still. They all have thorns and they all have scent, cos if it don't have those it aint a rose. Only Rosa Canina is exempt from these rules, by dint of her beauty and the fact that she was around long before the rules were. The hybrid tea was the star, deep red and queenly with a heavenly scent; the other two included one fiery orange one, and finally one white rose with a faint blush at its heart.I only got the white one cos I felt sorry for it. Just don't get the point of modest roses really.

Well, she's not so modest now. Mid October and my poor velvet red is suffering from some kind of blight while the white suddenly presents me with a magnificent flower, full and white with glorious scent. This morning I see the fiery orange has followed her example and blooms with vehemence. Above them, the passionflower I planted has conquered the back completely and threatens to bring the whole lot crashing down under its weight; I love passionflower, and have great hopes of it reaching the point where it and the roses grow together and tangle up but I must watch its predatory nature, as it appears to be strangling that other garden thug, the honeysuckle, in a fight to the death for domination of the fence.

Truth to tell, the garden is a mess. Some of the heathers and herbs have survived, but everything needs cutting and reworking, and the pear tree has proved that there are no appropriate pollinators around by being leafy and fruitless: still, [profile] larians parents now have an orchard with some pear trees so I can gather a little pollen in spring and try to paint it on the branch tips.

Actually, I have no idea what will be happening in Spring, as everything is in a state of flux around me. Plans seem impossible right now. Might as well just go with the flow.

I have no idea what the reference for it is, but there was an experiment done as to the most popular people on television shows. It was done in a University Challenge style, with the comparators being
1. A team/individual (I can't remember which)who got everything right all of the time and made no mistakes,
2. A team/individual who got almost everything right, but made a couple of really silly mistakes,
3. A team/individual who were basically incompetent.

Number 2 was the most popular every time they replicated it, varying who was playing what role.

That's you, that is.
