I got that from a fortune cookie last night, during a fine evening of take-away Chinese and playing Serenity. It reminded me that I am not the only person in this corner of lj land who loves to write, nor the only person with a head full of stuff that wants to be expressed. It's all happening: Here's what my publisher has to say about my book on his lj [personal profile] oldcharliebrown, and here's the press release on my agent's website.

http://www.johnjarrold.co.uk/news.html

If you follow the latter link, you will learn about John Jarrold. He's a literary agent who specialises in fantasy and science fiction, is very respected in the industry and does not charge a reading fee. So if he feels right for you...

Here's to imagination ruling the world.

Green with envy. :-) It's brilliant news. I've come across John Jarrold before and I'm trying to remember where - I think he had something to do with the scifi/fantasy scene up in Glasgow, but I may be misremembering. Rach will probably know...

I'm hopeless, the nearest I got to the then thriving Scottish sci-fi scene was meeting Ian Banks at a uni lecture in Edinburgh.

Really? I think Rachel and Iain Banks fell down some steps in Edinburgh once while very drunk on whisky. Now there's a claim to fame. :P

We were involved in running a couple of conventions up there years back, and had lots of links with it all via the Uni sci-fi society. Not really in touch with any of it now, tho'.

I love it but then of course, I would. This is the nearest I intend to get to maternity!

:D

..and you play Serenity... just got a copy recently after 'discovering' Firefly was actually damn good. Why do they only cancel the intelligent shows???
I sooo wish I had more rpg time happening these days. Back in the 70s I used to play almost every day (well, I WAS still in school and happily failing exams).

Firefly; was a fine show; I understand it had problems with not being shown in chronological order, plus Whedon seems to have super-offending powers when it comes to powerful executives who can screw up his career.

The game is a lot of fun. I suspect it doesn't have the sheer breadth of scope to make it a major rp game, but it has such interesting touches, like the southern parlance and the glossary of chinese terms:-)

I like the way ships are characters as well-a bit Blakes 7 (but then Firefly seems to have a chunk of Blakes 7 at heart anyway) but wonderful.
I did hear about his battle with Cameron-not wise. Its sad though, because intelligently written sci-fi/fantasy stuff does tend to get dropped after a season or two-audiences seem to like the formulas.

Thank you, you are very kind. I hope that when* the book comes out, it is worth your interest.

*When? If, insists my hubris hating inner headgnome. Seems all done and dusted but part of me won't believe til I see it on the shelves.
