Once you start to notice them, you realise they're everywhere. I've been hit in the face (not in the face!) yes in the face, by dozens of long cobweb strands looping out on the wind across gates and hedges, trees and gates. They seem random but I don't believe it.

My suspicion is that if they ever stop and the cobwebs break for good, all the objects on the earth's surface will just float off or fall over. Gravity is a myth invented to keep us comfortable and unaware of our arachnid overlords.

In other news, I have decided I'd quite like to live in an airship.

Maybe they`re making a subtle pre-publication critique of your book?

Or trying to encourage me onwards to the next, which also has spiders as a theme.

I think you and Agatha would get along rather well.

I'm not entirely sure Agatha actually liked living in the Baron's airship. She was a prisoner - even if she didn't realise it.

Am I the only person who thinks the Baron is rather hot?

I think we would too, until she realised I am kind of a hopeless antithesis of spark!

I've had the pleasure of meeting the lady at The Tower, but seldom have a chance to settle into her adventures in depth.

You are however wonderful company.

I hope to have the chance to prove that true to you sometime soon:-)

Yay!
There must be plans, possibly involving beer and talking nonsense.

This year is a good year for spiders. I think it's the weather. We have a hundred zillion of them in the garden with huge webs. The biggest web was 5' across - I measured it. Spider on it was only 1/2", thank goodness.

Yes, I haven't seen any huge spiders, and only one completed gnat necropolis of fearsome span, but the world is full of starting strands, ambitions and adventurous. Maybe they're trying to tell us something. Get a bigger house? Eat our enemies?

Sorry, that should be ambitious.,/i>

If you lived in airship, it could have special lines spun to the earth by the spiders when you wanted to pop down to the surface for a while, for tea or visiting friends.

I don't know if attempts to be completely free of the spiders are resented by them. I do know they are persistent and we cannot ever defeat them if we wanted to try-I cleaned our windows for the first time in ages recently, trashing the homes of a vast multitude of spiders, and they are all back now, quietly smirking and displaying webs far grander and ambitious then any I cleaned away.

Conquered by the beautiful!

I don't mind their plans for world domination. Britain alone is going to need those webs big time once we've run out of gaffa...

The Fox's new den has a great many spiders in and around it. On the bright side, my spider death-aura seems to be working ... webs full on Friday night, empty and forlorn by Sunday. My abilities may only be localised but I shall win my personal battle against the eight-legged demons.

Alas, what will you do when the gnats come to bite your head, and all your spiderguards are gone?

I shall have my friends the birds and the bats to protect me.

Not to mention chemical warfare.
