...Though the rats almost snuck(snekt?) off with the honours:-D congratulations to those vermin who won top prize at the Venice Carnival!

So the start of the year of the Tiger coincided with Valentines Day, and a surprise or two for which I thank chums and a friendly dragon;-) There was one surprise that delighted me so much I have to record it.

I used to be more active in environmental work than I am now. Work ate my life and it's like I forgot what was important. I remembered thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lucyas' firewalk, and so told [livejournal.com profile] larians that a great present would be to adopt a tiger cos they're dying out. China has made the use of tiger parts legal. There are tiger farms - or the cheap option of poaching in India. 5 rupees buys enough poison to kill a tiger. The south china tiger has not been seen in years, the Caspian, Bali and Javan tigers are considered extinct, the world's population is thought to be as few as 3200 in the wild. So I didn't wait for the symbolism of Feb 14th, start to the Year of the Tiger; I sent my contribution and got me wee tiger info pack complete with charming toy tigger. His name is Chavo.

Then Valentines day came and Russ presented me with a parcel. I had forgotten that he pays attention to everything I say. I opened it, and there was another info pack, another tigger. I have called her Juanita. She and Chavo are sitting in the front room, tails intertwined. I didn't do it, they just fell together that way.

It's only a start, but it feels good. If you are interested check out: http://support.wwf.org.uk/index.php?page=shop&pid=5
