I am trying not to be very angry with governments past and present. So instead, let me retread worn and well known ground. I will have to tread carefully as my right foot's in bad shape. One of the toes is swollen and painful, the whole thing is red and I walk like Igor's grandma. Exertion makes me feel dizzy and nauseous. My local GP can see me on the 15th at the earliest, so I shuffled in to see the nurse. I told her my symptoms, she looked at the foot, looked back at me and asked if I was pregnant. This question shouldn't come as a suprise to me, it's all they ever ask:

I am beginning to wonder why they are so keen to detect/diagnose fruit of my womb - most people who know me would agree that it's better if I don't procreate. Maybe the health centre is populated by carnies, cultists, or carnie cultists. All I need now is chocolate mousse, whippoorwills under my window, and an aged beardie urging me to find my destiny in Meggido.

What in the name of Jim Dale..?

In my role as an aging beardy, I could urge you to find your destiny in Meggido, if you think it would help?

Failing that, relax in front of the telly with a handbag of wine and a big glass, with your poorly foot on a cushion. Occasionally throw cats at passing schoolkids. Theraputic, that.

Hmm...I find your advice seriously comforting. But the cats question your methods.

This has made me smile, I'm sorry :-) it's kind of funny how he continuously insists you could be pregnant...I'd have to wonder why he's so insistant, what will he gain???

Also, what are you angry at governments past and present for? xx

If it was him alone, I could dismiss it, but he seems to have infected the rest of them! Re governments past and present, that will have to wait for a long uber-rant when I am better! I hope you are OK?

Oh gosh, mass insistance of non-existent pregnancy...you must have some special genes, that's the only explanation I can think of :-)
I'm ok, I think. Trying my best but it's been a tough week. How are you? Hoping you're foot is getting better!

Re governments past and present, ok, I'll look forward to the long uber-rant! Sorry I rang when you were unwell. Give me a call when you're well :-) Sending lots of thoughts xx

Gout? Pseudo-gout? A goutlike arthritic condition? What on earth does pregnancy have to do with inflammation in the big toe?

I had a similar problem a few years ago. It went away on its own which was a very good thing because I can't take anti-inflammatory meds but -- Igor's grandma. Yeah. Heh.

I was hoping for gout, at least it would be interesting. But no...turns out I have a mere common or garden infection. Anti-biotics are doing the trick, though my walk is still amusing the neighbours.

The toe to pregnancy leap happened when I told them I felt sick, and we all know there can only be one reason for nausea!

[head/desk] There's something really odd about your GP's practice. Is there anything you can go in for that doesn't result in the pregancy query???

Honestly, nothing occurs to me!

But it's not just you or me who consider this surgery...interesting, check out the patients' comments:
