Whoever worships this is at best a terrified slave. What words are there to describe them at worst?

That is horrifying. It is also indicative of a religion that cannot see that the world no longer lives according to religious principles but according to laws and, one would hope, shreds of human decency and common sense.

I'm fairly sure that my Catholic friends on this side of the Atlantic will not side with the church on this.

I think it is clear that the truth of a religion is to be found less in its leaders and more in those who follow it. I know many Catholics of heartfelt devotion to their god and other souls around them. They deserve better representation.

I have great time for faith as part of a personal journey, and I have known many fine people of faith. But as a shaper of laws it's deadly because it defies reason and accountability.
