Here's a thing: If anyone out there wants to bomb innocent folk, or just shoot a policeman or a soldier, or, you know, just anybody, remember to tag it to a cause - maybe even a cause with some justice in it. Keep it political. There's queenly approval at the end if you can hold on a few years and make yourself popular, cos in the end, she'll do what 'her' government tells her, whatever they tell her, keep quiet and take the money.
We wonder why our society seems to be falling apart. See, if folk were kind at the beginning, there would be no need for dishonesty at the end. There is no honour in any of it, and greed is the only moral marker. Maybe it was always that way. If so, let's not pretend there was ever anything else.
To the innocent, to those people on both sides who lost friends and family in the troubles, to those who died doing their duty, to those who worked hard to bring about peace, let us raise a toast and never forget.
For the jubilee, we bought a bottle of champers in a cute wee union jack jacket, because though I have never been pro-monarchy, I accepted her as the embodiment of an ideal the British people hold. Of course we saved the bottle.
That damned thing is going in the bin today.
Edited to add This is not written with intention to offend my pro-monarchy chums. I respect your views. Watched the doings on TV last night, got very upset, felt sick. Thought it would go away overnight. It hasn't.
