So three wolves escaped from a zoo in Colchester and were shot down. Great. At least they died running.

God I am sick of death.

Sick of dead badgers, dead foxes, dead birds, dead dolphins, dead whales...it's like a weariness in my bones.

Olivia's gone, I'll be going to a memorial in January. They placed an Egyptian head-dress on her, I think, and off she sails, in the boat of Ra to eternal Egypt. As opposed to an old friend's mum who keeled over on Saturday. She left the hospital with a clean bill of health, They've yet to work out what went wrong.

Her daughter was more a friend with my brother than with me, same year at school, but they were neighbours and we knew the family. The mother of the family went through seemingly insane jealous periods - it was whispered that these were founded in fact, that the gentleman was a bit of a philanderer. Strange how these things get about - he was no looker by a long shot. The lady confessed to my mum that she was afraid her husband was eyeing Mum whenever she went to the house, and would she mind not coming in? Mum said she didn't mind at all, and would never go into the house again, she would always knock and wait outside, and the lady could come to speak to her, and come around to our house. Sometimes Vera would feel ashamed and invite Mum in, saying she was 'over it.' Mum would still never come in. On this basis, their friendship lasted a long time. I do not look forward to passing on the news of her death to Mum.

My weariness may have a more physical origin. Yesterday we did more coppicing, bill hooks, clearing axes, saws...best upper arm work out I have ever done. But South East Trains collapsed into chaos, and it took me four hours to get home, giving me time to eat, sleep and dream that I lost my handbag and had to journey through time to try to find it. I never did.

Edited to add: Turns out that the lady died of an embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis in the very leg she went to hospital to have checked.
