There's nothing like our boys at the top. Is it possible for them to know less and spout more?
If terrorism is a thing that ordinary people must be protected from, why is it that all the government's clampdowns only affect ordinary people?

We are in a lot more danger from authoritarianism than we are from terrorism. From Home Office ideas about using teachers/carers as spies upon potentially fatwa-embracing toddlers (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/11323558/Anti-terror-plan-to-spy-on-toddlers-is-heavy-handed.html), to banning apps and encryptions only useful to the average communicator and easily worked round by any hacker criminal (http://boingboing.net/2015/01/13/what-david-cameron-just-propos.html) it's the sign of a political class that knows only one thing; appease the money. Keep the backers happy and the rest will forget, or be bribed. They have forgotten even the nominal lessons of the past, the usefulness and desirability of free speech as an imperative of a secure and strong society.

Nor is this just a boys in blue thing - the Left has no more illustrious a history of maintaining free speech than the Right, and Millipede has nowt to say on the matter. Meanwhile, at the Unity rally, transpires Boris said he couldn't care less about civil liberties. This is the man likely to be the next Conservative leader, surrounded by police and cameras, absolutely disinterested in the point of #JeSuisCharlie, in fact an enemy of free speech. Anyone who votes for this deserves what they get, but if they say, 'Who else is there to vote for?' I understand their dilemma. Swear to god, someone find me a few quid and I'll stand. There's a lot I have no clue about but I do know this much: If you don't know, find someone who does - someone loyal to presenting clear data rather than buttering up supporters. Begin with people being able to say what they like when they like - if they're shouting they're probably not shooting. Then state funding for parties, to level the playing field. Start with creating a fair society, and make it secure and prosperous for all within it. Such people don't need spying on.

not having a clue how to do it didn't stop Boris when he started.
