No, Paris is not short for 'Par Isis,' it comes from Parisi, the local Celtic tribe.

No, black madonnas are not Isis figures disguised so that Romans could worship them.

No, black madonnas were not introduced to Gaul via the Roman invasion.

I go now, before your terrible made-up history causes me to set fire to you.

Here is part of the reply I received:

"I feel when dealing with arc types especially the Black Madonnas one enters the land where myths, legends, and many different cultures and layered history all come together. But for me in the end process it is one's direct experience and the transformation that happens through the Black Virgins that is the truth of what she has to offer. And in that process we leave behind our intellectual process and enter the mystery."

Witness also those who try to link the Thames river above and through Oxford to the Goddess :-)

Indeed!

To some extent, I can understand that sort of thing if facts aren't available; for example, OK, so Tamesis is Celtic and if we go ferreting through legends of Scota etc, I suppose it's easy to start arriving at connections between Gaels and Egyptians, and extrapolating from there. If only there was some room in all this for evidence and proper research!
