It's Only Fire, It's Only Water, It's Only Love

Hard times for some friends, and more bad news closer to home. Not the worst, by any means, but a time of shock.

Meanwhile, the One Who Loves Him rails and rants. Behind it all are the tears and the fury and behind that, is the love that massaged his weak and failing legs and feet, that put on a bright very beautiful Scarlet Johanssen smile for him, and brought flowers, and tidied his flat and joked with him and nagged at him...and that same love is writhing now as he lies there with a drip up his nose, and terrible stuff endlessly draining out of him.

Fighting to live is not a dignified thing to watch, but there is a mighty dignity in it, despite the ugliness and pain, maybe because of those things. There is a dignity within the warrior, winning the fight or losing it. My heart gets it. But I have not worked as hard as she has. For her, this is the end, exhaustion and heartbreak.

I have been following this sad business here and have found your ongoing account touching, moving, sad, constructive, and full of your care and compassion.

But of all so far, "Fighting to live is not a dignified thing to watch, but there is a mighty dignity in it" will stay with me, and perhaps will help me at a future time.

Thanks Anita... the other bad news has been superceded by better news! Someone who was ill looks set to make a full recovery so that's excellent, and my fingers are crossed for them x
