Well, blow me down!

Cameron has said we'll take in 'thousands' more refugees!
Of course this may mean very little, but I like to think better of him. Let's see his commitment to it. This will not appeal to the party crazies, but it will sit right and proper with sane ordinary kind Britons. The mainstream media will hush until they think people are over their shock at Aylan, and then will start to cook the frog once more. And the far right will get more and more angry.
We've got around 5,000 Syrian refugees here already, folk who got here by their own steam. We took in under 300 this year. It is a useful excellent decision, and he must not let his idiots make a pigs ear of it.
I have not seen his declaration regarding Syria and airstrikes, but the logic is not hard to follow. I think he'll have a job taking that forward without support from the Opposition, and suddenly the election of a new Labour leader becomes an even more faceted issue.
But. At least he and his cabinet have moved from their position on Wednesday. At least our government will not utterly shame us.
Sometimes it is wonderful to be wrong!
