Words without thought,not meant to be cruel, in fact I think the person wanted to comfort me re the death of Dad. It's not cruel if it isn't meant that way.  It's just a horrible choice of words, and words are nothing.

But they felled me as though  I was a little old woman, bones like flowerstalks, knocked flat by the winter wind.
