I am grateful to [livejournal.com profile] mallorys_camera for mentioning the possible End of Days for non-cyrillic livejournals. I hope it is not the case, but, again thanks to her advice, am trying to move my LJ across to Dreamwidth in a burst of emergency archiving (not a verb, surely?). Livejournal has been my faithful and much loved diary for over a decade now. I won't leave unless I have to.

The actual import journal facility on Dreamwidth has me baffled. Having started the import, the Import Journal page doesn't seem to automatically refresh itself, so that,  disturbingly, the 'ready to be entered into the queue created 1 second ago' message is still there after a day. Once I did click the option to refresh the page, only to find the whole operation aborted. I started again. [livejournal.com profile] mallorys_camera reassures me that it will work though it can take days...

I love my journal. I love it even more now than I did when I started.  FB's great but you can't just ponder there, or you can but it feels weird, like singing next to klaxons. FB's a scrapbook, LJ's more.

Archive is a verb, and one may add the urgency through the insertion of a simple hyphen (emergency-archive) before turning it into a gerund. At least in American English: I think we tend to be more relaxed about grammar.

Many, many people are backing up their LJs right now on Dreamwidth. Dreamwidth is a rather small operation, so its servers may simply be overwhelmed. Perseverance furthers! And even if the whole thing turns out to be a Chicken Little exercise, if something is important to one, it's good to have a backup.

Yes, I am keeping up the attempt, though I do wish the Import Journal page let one know when something changes; I have no clue what's happening!

Couldn't agree more about backup. Hoping my issues are down to queues.

You must have hit it at a bad time. I imported eight journals with breathtaking speed (in comparison to what I'd been expecting). The slowest was two or three hours.

I wish the DW themes weren't so dismal. Custom themes are time-consuming.

I'm a bit worried about it. I tried an import two days ago and it told me that my username wasn't recognised and the import failed and wouldn't be tried again. Assuming this meant it wouldn't automatically be retried, I tried myself, and have had no notification since one way or another, nor has the Import Journal page changed. So now I have put in a support request to see if someone can tell me what is going on.

Re the themes, I haven't really looked yet. I am gutted about losing images though. Actually gutted at the thought of losing LJ.
