He said, ‘ You left and I became a harbour
Where all the ships clatter against each other
in love with old songs
Oh Psyche, wear your roses one more time
And cast them to the gods to bring us home
And we will find Olympus welcomes us,
To yet be beautiful on passion’s throne.’

I looked at him, Eros still, by his eyes
And said, ‘Sweet deadly bowman
I recall
when to find you, I braved despair,
and raging gods, and even death’s own hall,
While you were sleeping in a dove-charmed bower
Nor did I feature in your dreams at all.

No more am I a ship with red ensign
Braving the seas to chart your foam white star
No more
Do I go wandering where the monsters are.
No more am I your ardent, shy and bold.
I chose to change the rose for cactus flower
and left our quest to fade as it grew old.’
